TAKING ACTION ON CLIMATE CHANGE

In December 2015, leaders of 196 countries adopted the Paris Agreement, which calls for holding global warming to well below 2°C, with a goal of staying below 1.5°C.” To remain below 2°C, global GHG emissions must peak by 2030, decline approximately 40-70% by 2050 (compared to 2010 levels), and reach near-zero levels by 2100. In 2020, President Joe Biden committed the United States to cutting its GHGs 50-52% by 2030, compared to a 2005 baseline.

Achieving this commitment will require action at all levels of government, including the metropolitan or regional level. To date, the City of Cleveland, City of Lakewood, City of Oberlin, Cuyahoga County, and the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) have all completed or are completing their own CAPs. NOACA’s regional CAP will incorporate and build upon the goals and actions outlined in these plans.
